cleanliness is next to....
Earlier today I shampooed by sick dog's shaved ass.  How was *your* day?

We thought we were going to lose the dog, Jane, this week, but she appears to be improving now that her ass abscess is getting some care.  Her appetite is back and she's no longer walking on her hind knees.  Still senile, though.  If she recovers enough strength, maybe we'll try putting her on the drug for "canine cognitive impairment."  Needed a supply of that from the get-go, though of course she's always been The Best Dog.

Aw, poor Janie. We remember her fondly. Does she still remember how to get in the bush?

Our dog (our = Stoops) had an ass problem too. Although hers was above the tail. It was related to fleas and the fact that, trying to scratch them, she chewed through her skin. Don't know if that's what you're dealing with. (Our uncle's Scottie had the same above-the-tail mange, but he wore off the fur by scraping his back on the bottom edge of wooden furniture. Made for a much balder, but less torn-up surface.)

You take care of Jane. She is the Best Dog.

I think it's a prerequisite to getting in the bush that you have more intelligence than the bush. Sadly, Jane no longer meets that bar.

Glad to hear she's somewhat better - fingers crossed for her. I know how upsetting it is dealing with the ups and downs of a sick & old dog - hopefully she'll be on the up for at least a little while.

She's certainly more alert and moving more normally, but it still wouldn't take much of a relapse to be the end of her.
